Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. I have enjoyed time with family and friends and have really been finding that is what life is all about. I have decided that rather than competing with the Jones', I should drink coffee and play cards with them! That is more rewarding than all the stuff I can buy.

In the near future, I am hoping to interview some local business people. I have had some positive feedback from local shop owners. They are going to answer my questions that, hopefully, you would like to know answers to as well. Feel free to send me any comments or questions for local shop owners.

So, what is going on in Terre Haute? If you have seen my past blogs you know a bunch of websites to look on your own. If you haven't been online due to the holidays, but still want to have some ideas for the up coming weeks, I will list a few things to do.

I recommend driving thru Deming Park to checkout the lights. I want to remind you this takes a few minutes because everyone else in the park is looking at the lights, so drive carefully, be considerate and patient. Don't go if you are in a hurry. It should be done as a nice relaxing and leisurely ride. I believe tonight is the last night!

Last minute gift ideas...

Here are a few simple gift ideas.

How about a $25 gift card at Java Haute. If you buy it right now, they will put $30 on it. It's 5 free dollars worth of stuff! Then your friends or family can get what they want, when they want. If you aren't a gift card person, get them a coffee cup or bag of coffee. Coffee grounds is another excellent place to buy a coffee lover a bag of Joe. (Pete also has Brazil location if you are on the far East side) While at Coffee Grounds, check out the local art. And, you can also get some REX coffee at Clabber Girl with a t-shirt or hat to show support for our local baseball team.

Little ones....how about a membership to the Children's Museum and/or a brick with their name on it. That is a gift that will hopefully be around forever.

For someone who has all the lastest gadgets already, how about tickets to a show at the Community Theater. They still have the musical, "Meet Me in St. Louis" and "The Odd Couple" (female version) to go this season. Or how about season tickets for the 2012-2013 season?

For the music lover in your life, why not tickets to the symphony? They have two shows left for this season. Plus, the THSO is the second oldest orchestra in Indiana. This should tell you something about the orchestera and we in Terre Haute should be proud of it!

For someone on your list that I still haven't covered, how about tickets to a show at Hatfield Hall (at Rose Hulman)? There isn't a bad seat in the house and they have a wide variety of shows left in the season.

Just as Hatfield Hall has a great variety of choices, so does the ISU Performing arts series. I must recommend the Glenn Miller Orchestra as a must see for the BIG BAND music lover!

One last idea, is to stop by Arts Illiana and buy a piece of local art for someone. This is also home to the Terre Haute Symphony office. You could get a ticket to the Symphony for Aunt Sue and a piece of art for your co-worker. Feel free to ask the staff at Arts Illiana what else they have going on or might recommend. They can tell you more about things like the Children's Theater of Terre Haute (which has their next show on January 6th). Look another Christmas gift idea!

For the sports lover in your life (we all have one or two), how about tickets to an ISU sporting event? There are many to choose from.

I hope this list has sparked some ideas for everyone on your list. If not, feel free to write and ask questions about what there is to do and see in Terre Haute for you specific loved one. Terre Haute has so much to offer for everyone, I am sure we can find something.
